About EMM groups

Last updated July 26th, 2023

With Knox E-FOTA, you can streamline your device management tasks by syncing device groups from your EMM. Connecting Knox E-FOTA to your EMM helps ensure that your device groups are never out of sync. Device information is managed in the EMM so that the Knox E-FOTA admin doesn’t have to do it manually.

The device groups that you add are automatically synced from the EMM periodically every 24 hours. The following rules apply for devices you add from an EMM:

  • Any device added to a device group in the EMM is automatically added to that device group in Knox E-FOTA.

  • When you assign a campaign to an EMM device group, this campaign is automatically set as the default campaign for the group. This default campaign is assigned only to devices in the group when they are synced from the EMM for the first time. After the first sync, existing devices synced from EMM groups won’t be assigned the default campaign when you sync from the EMM again.

  • The default campaign associated with these devices changes if their EMM group or EMM group priority changes. Note that these devices are not automatically assigned to the changed default campaign.

  • Any device deleted from the EMM group is still available on Knox E-FOTA. Only the device’s EMM group information is deleted. The campaign, license, and upload source information are still accessible.

Additionally, you can individually manage devices synced in EMM groups without the need to unenroll these devices from the group and re-enroll them, simplifying device management for enterprises. You can also click the EMM group name to perform all the actions that you can perform on the Devices tab on the Devices page.

You can connect to up to five different EMM instances, which can be of the same EMM vendor or different EMM vendors. The Knox E-FOTA web console identifies the different EMM instances, which you can selectively synchronize groups with, desynchronize groups with, or remove entirely.
