About Accessory profiles

Last updated April 24th, 2024

Accessory profiles allow device users to assign one or more profiles to a device and switch between these profiles. This page explains the relationship between multiple accessory profiles and devices.

Relationship between accessory profiles and devices

kc accessory switch profiles

The Accessory edition supports accessory profiles that are non-exclusive and allow device users to link multiple accessories from different enterprises and choose which one to apply to a device, causing multiple profiles to be assigned to one single device.

Additionally, you can control what settings the device user can change on their device.

Profiles in which edition? Setting Can device user change these settings?
Setup, Dynamic, and Accessory editions Wallpaper and theme Can’t change wallpaper. Can change theme
Setup, Dynamic, and Accessory editions Booting and shutdown animations No
Setup and Dynamic editions Wallpaper and theme No. This is true only if the IT admin prevents changes to these settings.

Accessory profiles and Dynamic ProKiosk mode

The Accessory edition allows device users to switch between active Setup or Dynamic edition profiles and multiple Accessory edition profiles. However, device users can’t switch between accessory profiles and the Dynamic edition ProKiosk mode. Specifically, this restriction spans the following edge cases:

Case 1

If a device is already in ProKiosk mode and an accessory is tagged, an error occurs.

Case 2

If a device is enrolled with an accessory profile and triggers enrollment for ProKiosk mode through a web browser, you must first unassign the accessory profile prior to the ProKiosk mode enrollment.

Case 3

If a device is assigned one or more Setup, Dynamic, and Accessory edition profiles in their respective Normal mode, and if this Normal mode is then changed to the ProKiosk mode, you must unassign the accessory profile prior to the ProKiosk mode enrollment.

Case 4

If a device is assigned one or more Setup, Dynamic, and Accessory edition profiles in their respective Normal mode and it receives a lock push notification, you must unassign the accessory profile prior to locking the device.

If you are an MSP managed customer, you can’t create accessory profiles and the Accessory tab becomes inaccessible.
