Optimized Setup Wizard for AER (Android Enterprise Recommended)

The setup wizard (SUW) for Android Enterprise Recommended (AER) devices includes options that allow device users to consent to collection of marketing and other data. However, the collection of these items is not recommended or appropriate for managed devices. To address this, the SUW is updated to disallow data collection. The SUW now includes options that allow the user to consent to data collection, but in case of managed devices, data collection is automatically disabled for the device.

Device users can further modify these options from the Device Settings > Privacy menu.

Optimized Setup Wizard workflow scenarios

At the end of device setup, the user will encounter the following scenarios:

  • If the user agreed to both Sending of Diagnostic Data and Receipt of Marketing Information during SUW, then both of these options are disabled automatically. The user will be greeted with the message “Your agreement to sending of Diagnostic Data and Receipt of Marketing Information has withdrawn by policy.”

  • If the user agreed to the Sending of Diagnostic Data only during SUW, then that option is disabled automatically and they will be greeted with the message that “Your agreement to sending of Diagnostic Data has been withdrawn by policy.”

  • If the user agreed to the Receipt of Marketing Information only during SUW, then that option is disabled automatically and they will be greeted with the message that “Your agreement to Receipt of Marketing information has been withdrawn by policy.”
