Plan for deployment

Samsung Knox Classroom uses Samsung Account for Education to manage teacher and student access. As an IT admin, use this guide to register your institution, prepare accounts, and manage the access settings that support Knox Classroom.
What you can manage
You can manage the following aspects of your Knox Classroom deployment:
- Institution registration and domains — Register the institution, verify domains, and manage language and legal settings.
- Users — Create General User accounts for teachers and staff, and Classroom User accounts for student access.
- Organizational structure — Use organizational units and groups to reflect your institution’s structure.
- Administrative access — Assign Super Admin and Group Admin roles.
Choose how to organize access
To organize access, you can:
- Use organizational units to create an institution hierarchy and apply policies to users in that hierarchy.
- Use groups to organize users independently of organizational units. A group can contain users or other groups.
- Add General User accountholders who need Knox Classroom teacher access to the predefined Teacher Group.
- Use roles to give administrators the permissions they need to manage users, groups, or the institution.
For details, see Manage organizational units, Manage groups, and Manage roles and permissions.
Example organizational structure
For a typical educational institution, create one organizational unit for each grade. Use groups for classes and activities that do not need their own organizational unit, such as an after-school gymnastics class.
Use General User accounts for IT administrators, staff, and teachers. Each General User account represents one person and uses that person’s real name. Add teachers to the predefined Teacher Group so that they can sign in to Knox Classroom.
Use Classroom User accounts for students. A Classroom User account can use a non-real display name and can be shared by students in a class. The same account can also be used to join different classes.
Recommended setup order
Complete the following tasks before inviting users and using Knox Classroom:
- Create an administrator account and register your institution.
- Verify your institution and domain.
- Configure institution settings, including domains and two-step verification policies.
- Create organizational units, if your institution needs them.
- Invite and organize users and add teachers to the Teacher Group.
Verify your setup
After setup, verify that each audience can access the right experience:
- Invite a General User and add them to the Teacher Group.
- Create a Classroom User account for a test student.
- Sign in as the teacher and create a test class.
- Add the test student to the class and start a test session.
- Sign in as the student, join the test class, and confirm that the class is available.
