Overview

On Samsung tablets running Android 16 OS with One UI 8.0, kiosk mode may not automatically disable multi-window functionality. Device users can launch apps in kiosk mode, then switch them to pop-up view or windowed mode. Apps that should be restricted to full screen can run as windowed apps.

Cause

This behavior is caused by the standalone DeX mode introduced in Android 16 and One UI 8.0. This feature enables a desktop-like experience on tablets, allowing multiple windows to launch simultaneously.

When a device enters kiosk mode, the system doesn’t automatically restrict these multi-window capabilities. As a result, device users may still access window controls, resize apps, and create floating windows, even when the device should be locked in kiosk mode.

Resolution

This is a known behavior with Samsung tablets running One UI 8.0 and is resolved with the One UI 8.5 firmware update. We recommend you update your device firmware.
