Data processing for Galaxy AI

Last updated March 8th, 2024

Galaxy AI is a set of machine learning and generative features on Galaxy devices processed on-device and in the cloud to enhance the mobile experience. For enterprises where user data can’t be processed in the cloud, Knox Service Plugin provides you a way of restricting the features that are cloud-dependent.

AI features that are processed on-device don’t use your data for training machine learning models. Features that process data in the cloud may be used for model training.

If a device has a work profile and is set to only process data locally, the data is only processed in the area that the feature is accessed from. In other words, data in the work profile isn’t shared with the primary profile, and data in the primary profile isn’t shared with the work profile.

Requirements

Galaxy AI features are available on Galaxy S24 series devices running One UI 6.1 (Android 14) and higher with Knox 3.10 and higher.

Feature availability is subject to the following conditions:

  • A Samsung account is required for Samsung Notes features, Samsung Voice Recorder features, Web Assist Summary, Voice & Text Translations, Interpreter, Photo Ambient Wallpaper, Generative Edit, Call Assist, and Chat Assist.
  • Depending on the device management mode, certain features are only available in the primary profile (DO) or work profile (PO).

As an admin, you don’t need to wait for the device user to activate or use Galaxy AI features — you can preemptively set up the data processing policy, and it will take effect should the user ever access the features.

Manage Galaxy AI data processing

To manage Galaxy AI data processing on your devices:

  1. On your EMM console, begin editing the policies of your device profile.

  2. Set the following policies based on the device management scope:

    Scope Policy Value
Device-wide Enable device policy controls True
Device-wide Enable Advanced Restrictions controls True
Device-wide Allow process data only on device

To force AI features in the primary profile (DO) to be processed on the device, set to True.

To allow AI features in the primary profile (DO) to be processed both on the device and in the cloud, set to False.

Work profile Enable work profile policies True
Work profile Enable advanced restrictions in work profile True
Work profile Allow process data only on device

To force AI features in the work profile (PO) to be processed on the device, set to True.

To allow AI features in the work profile (PO) to be processed both on the device and in the cloud, set to False.

  3. Save the profile and push it to your devices.

Locality of AI features

Certain AI features are more dependent on cloud computing than others, and forcing on-device processing will inhibit them. The following table describes the effect of the Allow process data only on device policy on each feature.
