Prepare and sign up for Knox Classroom

Last updated September 15th, 2026

Samsung Knox Classroom uses Samsung Account for Education to manage teacher and student access. This guide helps you prepare for the account sign-up and institution registration process. After Samsung verifies your educational organization, you can begin to invite users, organize them with groups and organizational units, and assign administrative roles.

Setup roadmap

The complete Knox Classroom setup involves the following phases:

  1. Sign up and register your educational organization
  2. Plan your organizational structure
  3. Configure institution settings, including domains and two-step verification policies
  4. Create organizational units, if your institution needs them
  5. Invite and organize users and add teachers to the Teacher Group

Before you begin

Ensure you have the following basic information before starting the sign-up process:

  • Educational organization information — Official name, address, website, and phone number
  • Administrator work email — This becomes your account ID
  • Understanding of your institution’s structure — Grades, departments, and classes

Sign up and register your educational organization

Signing up for Samsung Account for Education establishes your administrator account and captures your educational organization’s essential information. This foundational step creates your identity within the Samsung education ecosystem and prepares your organization for verification. Once your educational organization is verified, you can invite teachers and students, create classes, and use all Knox Classroom features.

For complete step-by-step instructions, see Sign-up and educational organization registration.

You have up to 30 days to complete organization verification. Until your educational organization is verified, you can sign in but cannot invite users or perform administrative actions.

Plan your organizational structure

Planning your organizational structure before adding users helps you efficiently manage access and permissions. You can apply policies to entire groups or organizational units, and grant teachers Knox Classroom access through the Teacher Group.

To organize access for your educational institution, you can use the following approaches:

Organizational units — Create a hierarchy that reflects your institution’s structure, for example by grade level or department. Policies applied to an organizational unit affect all users within it.

Groups — Organize users independently of organizational units. A group can contain users or other groups. Use groups for cross-cutting activities that don’t fit the hierarchy, such as after-school programs or special projects.

Teacher Group — Add General User accounts for teachers and staff to the predefined Teacher Group to grant them Knox Classroom teacher access.

Roles — Assign Super Admin and Group Admin roles to give administrators the permissions they need to manage users, groups, or the institution.

For details, see Manage organizational units, Manage groups, and Manage roles and permissions.

Example organizational structure

For a typical educational institution:

  • Create one organizational unit for each grade level
  • Use groups for classes and activities that don’t need their own organizational unit, such as an after-school gymnastics class
  • Use General User accounts for IT administrators, staff, and teachers. Each account represents one person and uses that person’s real name
  • Add teachers to the predefined Teacher Group so they can sign in to Knox Classroom
  • Use Classroom User accounts for students. These accounts can use non-real display names and can be shared by students in a class or reused across different classes

Verify your setup

Testing your setup with sample accounts ensures that teachers and students can access Knox Classroom before you roll it out to your institution.

After completing sign-up, registration, and organizational setup, verify that each audience can access the right experience:

  1. Invite a General User and add them to the Teacher Group.
  2. Create a Classroom User account for a test student.
  3. Sign in as the teacher and create a test class.
  4. Add the test student to the class and start a test session.
  5. Sign in as the student, join the test class, and confirm that the class is available.
