FRP Bypass deprecation notice for Android 15

Last updated February 11th, 2025

Environment

  • Knox Mobile Enrollment
  • Devices running Android 15 and higher

Overview

Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is a feature that prevents unauthorized access after a factory reset. FRP is achieved by blocking access to a device until the previously configured Google account credentials are entered. For additional information on FRP, please see Enable enterprise factory reset protection.

The FRP Bypass feature unlocks devices that are locked by Factory Reset Protection.

For Knox Mobile Enrollment, FRP Bypass was automatically applied as part of the out-of-box experience. It was used when enrolling a brand-new device, or after a factory reset.

Due to an enhanced security policy change from Google, Knox Mobile Enrollment will no longer support the FRP Bypass feature starting Android 15.

Devices running Android 14 and lower aren’t affected by this change.

Required changes for your enterprise

As Factory Reset Protection is a consumer-level feature, Samsung strongly recommends you to disable FRP for Samsung devices directly from your EMM to prevent your devices from being locked by FRP.

Even without FRP, your devices remain safeguarded by Knox Mobile Enrollment. Enterprise devices enrolled with Knox Mobile Enrollment are protected against unauthorized access if lost or stolen by enforcing EMM re-enrollment after a factory reset.

Furthermore, Knox Mobile Enrollment leverages Samsung devices’ hardware-backed trusted environment to reliably detect compromised devices before enrollment. This ensures only secured devices are enrolled.

If your organization would still like to use the Factory Reset Protection feature, please refer to your EMM’s documentation.
