Knox Mobile Enrollment 1.8 release notes
Last updated July 26th, 2023
Assign preloaded application as home activity
This feature enables an IT admin to define a preloaded application, including Samsung Browser, as a device kiosk mode home activity. ProKiosk mode requires the home activity support and run only one application.
From the Home & Lock screen’s Home activity drop down menu, select the + Add a pre-installed application option.
The resulting pop-up allows a user to enter a valid package name in the input field. Once submitted, the provided application is available for selection within the Home activity drop-down menu.
KLM license addition permitted prior to SLM activation date
To date, only active KLM keys could be added within the Knox Configure console. Consequently, inactive KLM keys could not be added and registered to a KC server before their activation date. To satisfy both internal and external customer requests, an IT admin can now add a new KLM license (but not an inactive license) before its actual SLM activation date, enabling the admin to optimally register the license and assign a profile and devices before the license’s activation date. A pop-up warning message displays stating the activation date for the license key has not yet started.
Enhanced keyboard settings in ProKiosk mode
With this enhancement, an IT admin can customize a ProKiosk device’s keyboard settings by turning On/Off predictive mode or enabling/disabling keyboard settings.
The Predictive mode setting and Keyboard settings options function independent from one another, so there are no constraints on using these options together.
Related API options are available within the Knox Customization SDK.
Emergency call button available
To date, when a device lock is applied, there was no option but to make a call to the number predefined by an IT admin. This posed a significant problem for users in an emergency, since they may not be able to reach out to the appropriate emergency responder.
The new EMERGENCY CALL button provides a means of contacting a default emergency resource when the device PIN cannot be provided and the device unlocked.
The contact used for the emergency call must be added within Contacts > ICE > emergency contacts > EDIT.
KC console enhancements
The following Knox Configure portal enhancements are included in DS 1.8:
-
Within the portal’s Device connectivity profile setting, the Hide notifications when open networks are detected checkbox option is removed in Knox versions 2.9 and above, as setWifiNetworkNotificationState is deprecated in the Knox 2.9 cSDK.
-
A tooltip is available within the Enterprise Billing UX to inform an admin that only a single APN resource is available at a one time.
-
The portal’s Enable SIM lock feature has a new tooltip and User Guide update to reduce confusion: “Enabling this feature will prevent the use of a corporate SIM card on any other device. Whenever the corporate device is powered on, it automatically unlocks the SIM card for that session. However, if the SIM card is moved to another device, it remains locked. The IT administrator can set a PIN here to unlock the SIM card for use on a different device.”
-
The portal’s Profiles table and its supporting column titles have become too crowded in some locations and languages. To remedy, column titles are shorter in some Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.).
Knox Mobile Enrollment (KME)
KME feedback form enhancements
The KME portal’s feedback form is improved to better emphasize its intention as a general product feedback forum, and not a mechanism to submit bugs and issues. Additionally, a link has been added to submit KME portal bugs and issues directly to the Knox Support team.
Do profile enhancements
Only a single APK is supported. For existing DO profiles, you need to remove all but a single APK to save the KME profile.
EULA, Terms of Service and User Agreement enhancements
The following enhancements are available:
-
Changed “Knox-related EULAs” to “Knox-related agreements”
-
To date, the “Enterprise License” and “Knox License” links have both referred to the same Privacy Notice. To avoid confusion, both have been replaced with the correct link name, “Samsung Knox Privacy Notice”.
-
The “Knox Workspace” link has been renamed “Knox Workspace Terms and Condition”.
Additional country support
Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Taiwan were added to the list of countries and regions supporting KME.
Additional DO EMM support
ManageEngine has been added to Samsung’s list of EMMs supporting Google device owner (DO). DO is a privilege assigned to a EMM to apply policies and restrictions to a device during setup.
Reseller Portal
Reseller portal UX updates
With the DS 1.8 Reseller Portal release, the CUSTOMERS > Uploads screen has new columns for total uploaded devices and total number of registered valid devices. The number of Registered devices displays as a link that be selected to review registered device information in detail.
Additionally, the CUSTOMERS > Devices tab no longer displays failed devices, as non-active device information is no longer sent to the portal interface.
Device verification improvements
Rejected devices no longer display within the Reseller Portal’s device table. Rejected devices now only display within a reject event-generated CSV error message.
