To enable advanced settings in a profile, you’ll need an active Knox Suite license. If a profile with advanced settings is assigned to a device, but there are no Knox Suite license seats remaining in your tenant, you won’t be able to use the profile’s advanced settings.
Device status
The device status is either Enrolled or Enrolled (restricted) depending on whether or not you have the appropriate license. See the table for more information:
Scenario | Outcome | Device status |
---|---|---|
Devices with a Knox Suite license and available license seats | Devices are activated with advanced profile functionality during out-of-box experience (OOBE). | Enrolled |
Devices with a Knox Suite license and unavailable license seats | Devices aren’t activated with advanced profile functionality. | Enrolled (restricted) |
Devices without a Knox Suite license | EMM enrollment and device settings are applied successfully. Advanced profile functionality won’t be available. | Enrolled (restricted) |
Remove a device from a license
When you remove a license seat from a device, it can be used to enroll another device. A license can be deleted if no devices are associated with it.
License seats are released when you:
-
Unassign a profile from a device to unenroll the device.
-
For some EMMs, such as Knox Manage, you must unenroll your device before you can delete it.
-
Assign a different profile to the device. That is, you assign a profile with standard settings to a device that’s already assigned a profile with advanced settings.
The license seat is released if the device was enrolled only in Knox Mobile Enrollment. The license seat won’t be released if the device is still enrolled in another Knox cloud service.
Additionally, see Manage Knox licenses for more information on how to replace, upgrade, or delete your license.
This document was updated for the Knox cloud services 25.01 UAT.
