Apply managed configurations to Google Chrome

Overview

You can apply the following managed configurations to Google Chrome in Knox Manage:

  • Disabling Incognito mode
  • Disabling saving the browser history
  • Enabling auto fill for addresses and credit cards
  • Disabling cookies and JavaScript for all websites
  • Disabling dialogs
  • Allowing/blocking URLs
  • Adding browser bookmarks

How to apply managed configurations to Google Chrome

To apply managed configurations to Google Chrome:

  1. Add and assign Google Chrome to a group or organization.
  2. In the Knox Manage console, go to Group or Organization based on your configuration.
  3. Click your group or organization.
  4. Under the Application tab, select Google Chrome.
  5. Click Modify Setting. The Modify Setting page opens.
  6. Click Set Configuration.
  7. Enter a name for your managed configuration.
  8. Apply your configuration based on your preferences. See Managed configuration features for Google Chrome for more information.
  9. Click Save to save your managed configuration.
  10. Click Save to save your settings.
  11. Click Push Profile to push the update to your device fleet.

Managed configuration features for Google Chrome

You can prevent users from browsing Chrome in Incognito mode with the following managed configuration:

  1. In the list of managed configurations, navigate to Incognito Mode Availability.
  2. Select Incognito Mode disabled.

You can disable a user’s browser history in Google Chrome:

  1. In the list of managed configurations, navigate to Disable saving browser history.
  2. Set Disable saving browser history to On.

You can enable Google Chrome’s auto-fill option to allow users to auto-complete address and credit card information that was previously entered.

To enable the auto-fill option for addresses:

  1. In the list of managed configurations, navigate to Enable AutoFill for addresses.
  2. Set Enable AutoFill for addresses to On.

To enable the auto-fill option for credit cards:

  1. In the list of managed configurations, navigate to Enable AutoFill for credit cards.
  2. Set Enable AutoFill for credit cards to On.

You can prevent websites from saving local data or running JavaScript as follows:

To disable cookies for all websites:

  1. In the list of managed configurations, navigate to Default cookies setting.
  2. Select Do not allow any site to set local data.

To disable JavaScript for all websites:

  1. In the list of managed configurations, navigate to Default JavaScript setting.
  2. Select Do not allow any site to run JavaScript.

You can configure whether any dialogs are shown on websites. To disable the dialogs:

  1. In the list of managed configurations, navigate to Default popups setting.
  2. Select Do not allow any site to show popups.

You can allow or block a set of URLs in Google Chrome. To do so:

  1. In the list of managed configurations, navigate to Block access to a list of URLs.
  2. Enter *,https://*,http://* to block all URLs that are not in the allowlist.
  3. Under Allow access to a list of URLs, enter any URLs that should be allowed access. For example, to allow access to Google, enter www.google.com.

The string *,https://*,http://* is used as a wild card, preventing all URLs that are not in the allowlist from being accessible in Google Chrome.

Bookmarks in Google Chrome are different from the bookmarks set in Knox Manage profiles, which create shortcuts on the device’s home screen. To add bookmarks in Google Chrome:

  1. In the list of managed configurations, navigate to Managed Bookmarks.
  2. Under Managed Bookmarks, enter the URLs you would like to bookmark.

The following is an example of the string to enter when creating bookmarks:

Entering this string creates four bookmarks for Google Chrome as follows:

  • Managed Bookmarks
    • Samsung Knox
    • Knox Partner Program for Developers
    • Samsung links
      • Samsung
      • Samsung Store
