Overview

When installing a kiosk app on an Android device, you might encounter an issue where the device becomes stuck on the installation screen, and displays the following message:

Please wait Kiosk is installing

Alternatively, a warning displays on the device with the following message:

Unsafe app blocked
This app was built for an older version of Android and doesn’t include the latest privacy protections
Installing this app may put your device at risk.

Cause

Google Play Protect requires apps to have a targetSdkVersion within two API levels of the latest Android version. Before Knox Manage 24.04, the targetSdkVersion of the kiosk app was Android 7.0 (API level 24). Kiosk apps built before Knox Manage 24.04 fail to meet the target API level requirement, causing the issue.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, update the Knox Manage agent on your devices, and rebuild the affected kiosk app:

  1. Update the Knox Manage agent.
  2. On the Knox Manage console, go to Kiosk.
  3. Select your kiosk.
  4. Click Modify.
  5. Click Save and confirm. The kiosk rebuilds.
  6. Click Apply and confirm. The updated kiosk is pushed to any devices that it’s assigned to.
