Replace an expired license

Last updated September 22nd, 2025

When a license expires, you have a couple of options to replace it.

Replace a license on all assigned devices

To replace an existing license with a new license and update all assigned devices:

  1. Go to Setting > License.

  2. Select the license you want to replace. The details of the license show.

  3. Click Replace. Enter the new license’s key and click Save.

When a Knox Manage, Knox Suite, or Knox Platform for Enterprise license is assigned to a device with an expired license, the settings or policies that were configured before the previous license expired are reapplied to the device.

Replace a license on selected devices

To replace an existing license on selected devices:

  1. Go to Device.

  2. Select the device and click Update License.

  3. Click OK.

What happens to an expired license

Expired licenses retain some some functionality, such as basic communication between a device with a expired license and the Knox Manage console. This lets you, for instance, unenroll a device or update its license.

However, you can’t deploy new settings, apps, profiles, or content to a device with an expired license. Additionally, the device user can’t download new configurations or content using the Knox Manage agent on their device.

View the following table to learn more about what happens when licenses expire:

Licenses can be renewed on a monthly, yearly, or on a two-year basis through validity period extensions or renewal contracts. The license information can be updated using the following methods:

  • Automatic updates once daily for applied licenses using Knox Manage and SLM server scheduling (default)

  • Automatic updates using scheduler by tenant (Setting > Configuration > Profile Update Schedule)

  • Manual update (Device > select a device > Device Command > Knox Manage > Update License)
