Delete content

Last updated August 19th, 2024

Content is automatically deleted from a device when it’s unassigned from the parent structure that granted it the content, that being either a group or an organization. Content is also automatically deleted from a device when it is unenrolled from Knox Manage. You may need to delete content to address device security concerns, such as when a device is lost or compromised, or if the content itself contains sensitive information that requires unsharing or replacement.

You can automatically delete content on a target device, which will leave the content assigned to other enrolled devices. Alternatively, you can manually delete content, making the deletion permanent and system-wide.

To delete content from devices, you must enable Delete Content upon Unassignment, which applies to device unenrollment, content unassignment and content deletion. To turn on this setting, go to Setting > Configuration > Basic Configuration > Device > set Delete Content upon Assignment to Yes > Save.

Deleting content on a device

You can automatically delete content on a target device by unenrolling it in Knox Manage, or by unassigning the content as follows:

  1. Go to Content.
  2. Click a currently assigned content item. The Content Details page opens, showing the target device listed under the Device tab.
  3. Click the Assigned Target tab, then select the organizations, groups, users, or All Devices category that the device belongs to.
  4. Click Unassign. The page will automatically refresh to remove the selected rows.
  5. Go back to the Device tab to verify that the target device is no longer listed.

The Content Details page lets you unassign one content item at a time. You can unassign multiple content items from an organization or a group.

Unassigned content items may remain listed on the device’s Content screen until the device user clicks the Refresh button.

Permanently deleting content in Knox Manage

You can permanently delete content in Knox Manage as follows:

  1. On the Content page, select one or more content items in the grid.
  2. Click Delete, then confirm the deletion.

The page will automatically refresh to remove the selected content items. Assuming the Delete Content upon Unassignment environment setting is turned on, the content items will also be deleted from all assigned devices.
