Overview
If a device user attempts to set the screen timeout setting using the Settings > Display > Screen timeout console navigation path, the maximum length of time selectable is either 10 minutes or 30 minutes, depending on whether the device has an AMOLED or non-AMOLED display.
Using KC, administrators can set the device screen timeout to a value greater than 10 minutes. Even if the timeout setting is applied successfully, when the device is restarted and the user navigates to Settings > Display > Screen timeout, the maximum screen timeout is displayed instead.
Cause
The screen timeout value has actually been applied successfully, but the console’s Settings menu limits the length of time before a device screen turns off.
- For AMOLED displays, the maximum screen timeout is 600 seconds.
- For non-AMOLED displays, the maximum screen timeout is 1800 seconds.
However, a KC administrator can override this UI limitation and set the screen timeout to any value between 5 to 1000 seconds. If this value exceeds the limit as defined above, the UI will display the maximum screen timeout value instead.
Resolution
This is expected behavior. The device screen will time out based on the value set in KC, not the maximum screen timeout of either 10 or 30 minutes displayed on the device.
Additional Information
For additional information on how the screen timeout is handled, refer to the Knox SDK documentation.
