Configure ProKiosk mode
Last updated October 25th, 2025
Knox Configure ProKiosk mode lets you convert supported Galaxy smartphones and tablets into dedicated devices that restrict access to specific features and applications. This can help businesses such as hotels, retail stores, and airports replace traditional bulky kiosk machines with lightweight and powerful mobile devices specifically designed for specialized use cases. For example, a ProKiosk tablet could be deployed in a hotel as an in-room concierge, allowing guests to call for room service, review restaurant menus, or book a session at the hotel spa.

How to create a ProKiosk mode profile
ProKiosk mode is only available in Dynamic edition profiles. To create a ProKiosk mode profile, follow the normal profile creation process and select ProKiosk mode in the Configuration mode tab.

On the Configure settings tab, the Home & Lock screen settings group will be replaced by Kiosk settings, and you’ll see a notification letting you know that profile requires a Home activity and Passcode before it can be saved.

Kiosk Home & Lock screen
When creating a ProKiosk mode profile, you must set the Home activity in the Home & Lock screen settings. To do this:
- Click Kiosk Home & Lock screens in the Kiosk settings group.
- In the right panel under Home activity, select whether you want to set up a multi-app kiosk, or a single-app kiosk.
Single-app kiosk
If you want to create a ProKiosk profile that only displays a single app on the home screen, do the following:
- Under Home activity, select Use a different pre-installed application
- In the window, enter your app’s package name, then click SUBMIT.
- After the app is added, its package name appears in the list. You can replace the home screen app with a new one by repeating the same process.
Multi-app kiosk
If you want to create a ProKiosk profile that contains multiple apps and content, do the following:
- Under Home activity, select Multi-app kiosk mode.
- Under Home screen wallpaper, upload a PNG or JPG file to use as the kiosk’s background image.
- Under Add to Multi-App Kiosk home, click the + icon to add apps or content to the kiosk. The following can be added to the kiosk:
- Application — Enter the package name of the app that you want to add.
- Web bookmarks — Provide a book name and URL, and upload an optional icon image to represent the bookmark.
- Content (PDF, video, image) — Upload the file that you want to add, and give it a name.
- Folder — Create a folder containing any one or more apps, content, or web bookmarks.
- After adding your app or content, click SUBMIT. Repeat this process if you want to include additional apps or content in the kiosk.
- Click ROTATE PREVIEW to see what the home screen would look like between landscape and portrait modes.

Kiosk settings
In Kiosk settings, you can control how notifications appear on kiosk devices, hide system icons, and add passcodes to enter or leave kiosk mode. The following options are available:
Under Display notification messages, set whether the following notifications are displayed when the device is in ProKiosk mode:
- ALL — Displays all the notifications listed below.
- Hide low battery notifications — Hide the status bar message, LED light, and other low-battery related notifications.

The Nitz set time notification only appears on devices that have enabled the Automatic date and time and Automatic time zone options.
Under STATUS BAR, set the following status display options for the kiosk supported profile:
- Hide status bar — Show or hide the status bar when the device is in ProKiosk mode.

- Prevent the input method from being changed — Select this option to prevent the status input method from being changed by the device user.
Under ENTER AND EXIT PROKIOSK MODE UI STRING, you can customize the text shown in the dialog when entering or exiting ProKiosk mode by pressing the Power button.
- ProKiosk mode option — Provide your own label for ProKiosk mode utilized by this profile. The default label is “Enable Professional Kiosk mode.”
- ProKiosk mode on/off — Provide your own label for the option to turn ProKiosk mode on and off for this profile.
- Enter and exit passcode — Enter a passcode to enter or exit ProKiosk Mode on a device. This passcode must have a minimum of 4 characters and is a required field.
If you have a custom app that you want to use for the passcode input screen, you add the Package Name and Class Name of the app under CUSTOM PROKIOSK MODE PASSCODE INPUT UI.
Under HOME SCREEN, you can set Show notification on the Home screen to On if you want to show app notifications on the home screen when you tap and hold a specific app.
