About Knox Configure profiles
Last updated October 7th, 2025
Knox Configure lets you customize the apps, settings, and appearance of your company’s Samsung Galaxy devices through the creation of profiles. The type of profile you can create is directly related to your Knox Configure license type, with each license type granting the ability to create a specific profile type.
In Knox Configure, the association between the profile and license type is commonly referred to as the Knox Configure edition:
-
Setup edition and Dynamic edition licenses let you create Setup/Dynamic profiles that can remotely customize Galaxy phones, tablets, and wearable devices1 during an out-of-box experience setup.
-
Accessory edition licenses let you create Accessory profiles that can be configured onto NFC-type accessories like Galaxy Buds cases, cards, and keychains. When an end-user pairs their phone or tablet with the NFC accessory, a profile is downloaded and the device is configured with the profile’s settings.
Setup edition profiles
Setup edition profiles let you customize Samsung Galaxy devices with a limited subset of policies and features, and are designed for a “one-time deployment” that doesn’t require incremental updates. Once configured, devices remain locked to that “setup”, making it ideal for scenarios where devices have a single, unchanging purpose, like retail kiosks that display static information or perform a single function such as product lookup or store navigation. Once a device is configured with a Setup edition profile, it must go through a factory reset if you want to update or apply new profile settings.
Dynamic edition profiles
Dynamic edition profiles let you to customize your device fleet’s apps, settings, and restrictions, and allow you to update them as many times as needed, without requiring a factory reset. These profiles are ideal for devices that need to adapt to new roles or tasks frequently, such as kiosks that need to display different content based on seasonal promotions or store-specific needs. These profiles includes all of the policies and settings available in Setup edition profiles, as well as other enhancements such as ProKiosk mode and unlimited app installations.
