Charging issues

Last updated September 25th, 2024

The new Charging issues dashboard insight lets you know if battery charging is being affected by factors related to charging accessories, connection issues, or environmental conditions like water and dust ingress. You can use this information to take corrective actions to help mitigate charging issues, and increase the overall battery health of your devices.

Main tile view

This insight’s main tile view displays the total number of devices that experienced a battery charging issue. Hover over each segment of the ring chart to view the issue type, the total event count and percentage, and the total number of affected devices over the selected reporting period. The data presented in the ring chart also corresponds with the data in the main tile view’s table.

Expanded view

The expanded view page for Charging issues provides additional details to help you analyze issues related to your fleet’s battery charging. You’ll see the total number of devices affected by a battery charging issue, the issue type, and the total number of charging issue events over a selected reporting period.

Summary

charing issues expanded view

In the expanded view summary, you’ll see a count of all devices impacted by more than one average daily charging events, as well as their total event count.

Impacted devices are devices that had more than one average events per day, over the selected reporting period. In other words, if your reporting period is Last 7 days, then devices will only be included in the summary if the daily average event count over the last seven days was greater than 1. The following scenarios can help explain this logic in more detail.

Example 1: Devices included

To help explain further, here is an example of a device that would be included in the summary:

  • Reporting period: Last 7 days
    • Day 1: 6 charge events
    • Day 2: 2 charge events
    • Day 3: 1 charge events
    • Day 4: 1 charge eventls
    • Day 5: 0 charge events
    • Day 6: 1 charge events
    • Day 7: 1 charge events
  • Total event count = (6+2+1+1+0+1+1) = 12 events.
  • Average event count per day = 12 events/7 days = 1.7 events/day.

Since there were 1.7 events per day on average, the device would be an impacted device.

Example 2: Device not included:

Here is an example of a device that wouldn’t be included in the summary:

  • Reporting period: Last 7 days
    • Day 1: 3 charge events
    • Day 2: 0 charge events
    • Day 3: 1 charge events
    • Day 4: 0 charge events
    • Day 5: 0 charge events
    • Day 6: 0 charge events
    • Day 7: 2 charge events
  • Total event count = (3+0+1+0+0+0+2) = 6 events.
  • Average event count per day = 6 events/7 days = 0.85 events/day.

Since there were 0.85 events per day on average (less than 1.0), the device would not be an impacted device.

Chart

The chart displays the total number of devices that had a charging issue during the selected reporting period. Click a category in the chart’s legend to show or hide the line graph on the chart. Hover over each data point on the chart to view details, such as the total number of devices and the event count for that day.

Device list

charing issues expanded view table

The DEVICE LIST table below the chart shares the same data logic as the summary bar. In the table, you’ll see every device that had an average of one or more charging issues per day, over the selected reporting period. Each row of the table provides a breakdown of the device’s total event count per event type, the OS version, and the group and model information.

Click a Device ID to view the expanded devices detail panel. To help troubleshoot devices with excessive charging issues, you can also select devices from the list and click REQUEST DEBUG LOG. Once the user accepts the log request, you can view the log details on the Diagnostics page. See View diagnostics to learn more about Knox Asset Intelligence’s debug logs and diagnostics features.
