Identity provider (IdP)

In-house app

A company’s internally developed app distributed to users through Knox Manage, which enables secure deployment and management of proprietary business tools across company devices.

Invite

The process of adding new admins to the Knox Admin Portal by granting them defined management privileges. This enables delegated control over devices, settings, and policies through a secure workflow.

Kiosk mode

The state a device enters when an admin deploys a kiosk, restricting non-essential functionality and limiting the device to the intended use case and allowed apps.

A unique identifier assigned to Knox accounts on the Knox Admin Portal. Partners, such as MSPs and authorized resellers, use this ID to manage accounts and upload devices for admins.

Knox Reseller ID

A unique identifier assigned to a trusted Samsung device reseller on the Knox Reseller Portal. Admins enter this ID on the Knox Admin Portal to register the reseller, allowing them to upload and provision devices on the admin’s behalf.

License key

A unique alphanumeric code that unlocks access to Samsung Knox services, identifying the purchased service, its duration, and activation status.

Knox services can be used only during the validity period of the license key. When a device is registered with a Knox service and a license seat is activated on it, the device is enrolled with the service.

License seat

A license allocation that allows one device to use a Knox service. Each license seat represents the right for a single device to access the licensed service features. License seats are consumed when devices are enrolled or assigned to a service, and depending on the license type, may be released when devices are unenrolled, allowing the license seat to be used by another device. The total number of license seats determines how many devices can simultaneously use the service under that license.

Locked

A device status that indicates that an admin remotely locked a device or that a user account exceeded the maximum number of allowed failed password attempts.

Maintenance mode

A feature that creates a separate user account on a device during repairs or servicing. Authorized personnel can then troubleshoot a device without interfering with the user’s personal data or settings.

Managed device

A device that’s owned or controlled by a company. The company can install apps, set security rules, and monitor its use to make sure it complies with company policies and security practices. Includes fully managed corporate devices and personal devices with a work profile.
