Renew and change Knox Configure licenses
Environment
- Knox Configure
Overview
When a trial or commercial Knox Configure license expires, there is a 30-day grace period to accommodate license renewal delays. After this period, any devices associated with the license are automatically unassigned from the profile they were configured to, and you won't be able to push profile updates, send lock and unlock commands, reboot, or factory reset your devices. Any previously scheduled pushes will also fail.
If the same license is renewed, you don't need to take further action. You can also choose to replace your current license with a new one, but be sure to do so within 30 days to avoid your devices being unassigned.
For more details about replacing an existing license, see License management in the Knox Configure admin guide.
Who to contact to renew licenses
To renew your commercial license, contact your Knox Configure license reseller.
As a best practice, we recommend you renew your commercial license instead of requesting a new one. If you renew your license, you can avoid potential workflow disruptions caused by switching to a new license.
What if I want to change the number of license assignments?
If you want to increase the number of assignments on your existing license, you can contact your reseller to renew the license with additional assignments.
If you want to decrease the number of assignments on the license, you'll need to request a new license instead. If the number of licenses assigned is higher than the number of assignments available on the renewed license, you won't be able to choose which devices are activated with the renewal.
For example, say you had a license that had 20 assignments, and you assigned it to 20 devices. When it expired, you only renewed 15 assignments for the license. Knox Configure automatically selects 15 of the 20 devices previously activated on the license to activate on the new license. The other devices are then considered expired. If the expired devices aren't moved to a new license, they're unassigned after the 30-day grace period. The license details also show that the total number of assignments purchased is less than the number of activations.
To prevent Knox Configure from automatically selecting devices for renewal, request a new license with the number of assignments you want, then switch the desired devices to it.
