Block FOTA updates

Before you start the migration, block firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates to ensure that no unwanted FOTA updates from carriers occur on the devices when you uninstall the Knox E-FOTA Advanced client.

The following table shows how you can block FOTA updates on various Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) systems. For more information, refer to your EMM's documentation.

EMM How to block FOTA updates
Knox Configure(Dynamic edition: Normal mode) In Restrictions > Security, select Disable Software Updates (Firmware updates via Wi-Fi and Mobile networks).
Knox Manage

Add or modify a profile associated with the devices to be migrated.

  • In Samsung Knox (Android Enterprise) > System > OTA Upgrade, select Disallow.
  • In Android Legacy > System > OTA Upgrade, select Disallow.
VMWare Workspace One

Go to Devices > Profiles & Resources > Profiles > Add > Add Profile.

  • Android Enterprise: In Android > System Updates > Automatic Updates, select Defer Update Notifications.

    NOTE—Software updates will be blocked for up to 30 days.

  • Android Legacy: In Android (legacy) > Restrictions > Sync & Storage, deselect Allow OTA Upgrade.

Intune

In Device Configuration > Create Profile > Android Enterprise > Device Restrictions > System Update, select Postponed.

NOTE—Software updates will be blocked for up to 30 days.

Blackberry UEM In Policies & Profiles > Add New > Android > Global (Samsung Knox devices only), deselect Allow OTA Updates.
IBM Maas360 In Security > Policies > Add Policy > Android > Security, set Allow OTA Upgrade to No.
SOTI

Send the following script command to the devices:

set_system_update_policy 3

NOTE—Software updates will be blocked for up to 30 days.
